In a Rainforest

May 9th, 2005

1997, Canon Elan II, 35mm, cross-processed. Focal length/f-stop unknown.

This was one of the most amazing and scary things I’d ever seen. The plant life was in a constant battle; mosses and ferns everywhere and on every surface. The quiet power of plant life laid bare, yet still hidden under the trees.

Which rainforest is this? Aren’t they amazing? I’ve been lucky enough to set foot in rainforests in Central America and Puerto Rico - but I don’t have any pictures like this one! Beautiful!

I always feel sort of overwhealmed in spaces like that. It’s so intensely ALIVE and amazing, without any human interaction or “help”. Then I think about all the spaces like that on earth and it is really well, awesome, for lack of a better word.

    Anyway, GORGEOUS.

This reminds me of the forest in the Cascade Mountains. Do tell, Jon, where is it?

Total brain fart on the post. I may update the post to include that info. Or maybe not, because I can be a dickhead.

That’s gorgeous! Isn’t it amazing how nature has her own way of making art?

Every hair on my neck is now standing on end. This looks just like the woods I was running through in my nightmare last night. Couldn’t see what scary thing was chasing me but I swear that’s where it was. Weird.

    Oh. Wow.

Can you just come over this way and stand near me, in the hopes that I can catch some of the Fu radiating off of you?

This reminds me of photos I took going up Mt. Baker in Washington.

On a totally unrelated note…..have you ever wondered, if you peeked at the bellys of the two ladies living in your home during the night, you would see angry, red, exorcist-style letters spelling ZELNORM?

Couldn’t help but notice that there aren’t any stories about guns and bowling balls with anchors bondoed to them on your site.

Love the pic. Olympic National Park Green, it should be in every kids crayon box.

I’m totally going to Olympic National Park in two weeks - just have a day, driving through - now I cannot wait. Do you remember whereabouts this was taken in the park?

I believe this was just off the road in a campground with a hike to a waterfall. It wasn’t a big hike at all, and was very spooky because it was in the fall.

Could it have been Marymere Falls? It’s on Hwy. 101 next to Lake Cresent. Merymere is a great little hike regardless.
